All hot and buttered…
Whether you’re a hot and buttered kind of a person, or chilled with mayo, celery, onion and seasonings… the area’s offerings of lobster rolls does not disappoint. And while, yes, there is something special about grabbing one of the summertime delicacies at a roadside or seaside shack in Maine or Rhode Island, we’ve found plenty of local options that will not disappoint! So while summer may be quietly fading into the sunset, there’s no reason why we can’t enjoy our favorite summer treats well into September, and beyond!
Below are some of our local lobster roll favorites.
We’d love to hear yours if they’re not on this list.
Lobstercraft, Fairfield: LobsterCraft opened its retail doors about a year ago in Fairfield. Located just off of the Post Road, their tented, casual seating area is reminiscent of those great roadside eateries along the coast of Maine. Their truck, when not parked by the restaurant, can be found all over the state. Word is out that they’re soon to open a location in South Norwalk. We can hardly wait!
Knot Norms, Norwalk: In addition to the classic lobster roll, Knot Norms in Norwalk has rolls of all varieties! Join them for a Fried Chicken Roll, Roasted Oysters and a Crab Salad Roll, and more. This seems still to be a hidden gem, but we need to help get that secret out!
Sunset Grille, Norwalk: Norwalk really seems to be the place to go for waterside lobster. We love the Sunset Grill for its casual and rustic charm. There’s nothing fancy about this place and it doesn’t purport to be anything other than what it is. Come sunset, a beer and a lobster roll and life doesn’t get much better.
SoNo Seaport Seafood, Norwalk: SoNo Seaport Seafood recently experienced a bit of a menu renovation under the direction of Match and Match/Burger Lobster’s Matt Storch. Their giant deck with outdoor bar with views of Long Island Sound is another terrific setting.
Match Burger Lobster, Westport: Chef Matt Storch of Match in Norwalk opened Match Burger Lobster in Westport. Order a warm lobster roll or opt for he "Monster Combo," which features a Match mini burger and a 1/1/4 pound lobster.
Pearl at Longshore, Westport: At last! This summer Pearl was granted permission from the town to serve food downstairs on the Patio. One of the more beautiful local settings and a pretty terrific lobster roll.
Prime Stamford, Stamford: Here wave true upscale dining at its finest without the highbrow attitude. With sweeping views of the sound from every vantage point, as well a casual outdoor tiki bar, their lobster roll will not disappoint.
L’escale, Greenwich: L'escale offers waterside dining at its finest. With plenty of outdoor seating and exceptional cuisine, their lobster roll gives this highbrow restaurant an authentic New England feel.
Artisan, Southport: L’escale’s sister restaurant has a cozy and inviting tavern setting as well as their more formal dining area, but their summertime sweet spot is their charming patio setting resplendent with wicker furniture and outdoor twinkle lights nestled in the trees. Order your lobster roll with their private label rosé, and you’ve got a perfect summer meal well into September.
Lobster Hut, Milford: Hot and buttered is where its at. The Lobster Hut in Milford always tops the list. As its name implied, this is a casual eatery that’s recommended time and time again.
The Lazy Lobster, Milford: Voted one of the best in the state, The Lazy Lobster offers a generous amount of succulent meat is piled high on a fresh baked and buttered roll.
